PANJIM: After excess rainfall in June, the southwest monsoon has weakened over Goa, with day and night temperatures also rising above the normal.
This month, till July 7, the State received nine inches of rainfall, which is 2.5 inches above the normal. The seasonal total till date is 57.5 inches, which is 13 inches above normal.
However, the day temperature that had dropped to between 27 and 28 degrees Celsius last month shot up to 31.3 degrees Celsius and the night temperature to 24.7 degree Celsius, both above normal.
“The southwest monsoon has been weak over Goa for the last two-three days. We expect the situation to change in the next few days. Rain and thundershowers will continue in isolated places,” IMD Goa director VK Mini said.
Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea for the next 24-hours due to rough weather conditions.
The State has been receiving low to moderate showers for the last few days and this will continue for a few more days.
In June the State had received 48 inches of rain, nearly 30 percent above the normal average.
