Atal Setu’s pathetic state exposes low quality work, says Cong

Alleges that govt is on a spree of taking loans while money is getting drained in the potholes on roads

PANJIM: Potholes on Atal Setu, the one-and-half-year-old bridge over River Mandovi, has caught the attention of the Opposition, with the Congress on Sunday questioning the government on the substandard quality of work.

“The photos emerging of pathetic condition of the newly-constructed third Mandovi bridge named as Atal Setu, exposes the low quality of work on which crores of rupees were spent. I demand that the Government must fix accountability for the sub standard work,” he said as pictures of potholes on the cable-stayed bridge went viral on Sunday morning.

He alleged that the government is on a spree of taking loans while money is getting drained in the potholes on the roads.

“The present condition of the third Mandovi Bridge named as Atal Sethu exposes the fact that the josh of hurriedly inaugurating the bridge was not in proper posh,” GPCC president Girish Chodankar commented.

Chodankar demanded that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari must take note and fix accountability for the sub-standard work.

“We had exposed Rs 45 crore street light poles & fixtures scam of the same bridge. The work of the said bridge with an estimated cost of Rs 355 crore was tendered for Rs 403 crore, but the last known figure of the actual expenditure was approximately Rs 900 crore, which was more than the double,” Chodankar claimed.

Meanwhile, Kamat has asked the government to declare the actual expenditure incurred on the bridge, with exact dates of when the said bridge will be fully operational for vehicular traffic movement on all the side arms of the bridge.
