Atala was not in police custody: DIG
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, MARCH 27
In response to criticism that a policeman collaborated in the attempted assault on a photojournalist by an Israeli accused Atala, DIG Ravindra Yadav said the Israeli was not in police custody.
Atala was only escorted by a policeman on the request of the jailer as Atala is in judicial custody.
It may be recalled that the when Atala was trying to make a call outside the court premises, a photojournalist Kailash tried to click the picture.
Furious Atala allegedly charged at Kailash after which he filed a police complaint against the Israeli. I
t’s a non-cognizable offence, the police said adding that the investigation is on.
DIG said that Atala had told them that he would make a call from outside.
Again the jailer requested for escort from the police but the Goa police has rejected saying they should use their own personnel for escort.
He was moved to judicial custody two days ago.
