ATM thefts: Ponda police obtain crucial clues

Two teams leave to take custody of accused

PONDA: The Ponda police have apparently found clues regarding the suspects involved in ATM thefts at Tisk Usgao and have left for the neighbouring State to seek custody of the thieves.

Sources reveal that there are six accused involved in the case and two police teams from Ponda have already left to seek their custoday. 

The police also believe that the suspects either belong to the infamous Mewar or Bengali gang which operate at the national level.

It may be recalled that two ATMs belonging to the HDFC and Canara Bank were stolen from Usgao on August 17. While Rs 13 lakh was stolen from HDFC ATM, the robbers failed to open the one belonging to the Canara Bank. 

The van used for committing the crime was later abandoned at Margao.

Sources in the police state that a band of thieves were recently nabbed in the neighbouring State while attempting to break an ATM machine and the teams of Ponda police have already left to

Seek their custody and bring them down to Goa within the next 3-4 days. 

Further investigations are underway under the guidance of Ponda Deputy Superintendent C L Patil.

Meanwhile, the police have also found clues regarding the theft case at the Mahaganpati temple in Khandola. PI Vijaykumar Chodankar is further investigating the case under the guidance of DySP C L Patil.
