Attack on Herald reporter: Police oppose trio’s anticipatory bail

MAPUSA: Anjuna Police on Tuesday objected to the anticipatory bail application moved by the three accused in attack on Herald reporter Asmita Polji.

Judge Bosco George will hear arguments in the case on April 26 in the Fast Track Court at Mapusa.

It may be recalled that on March 26, at 6.20 pm when Polji along with another journalist from Goenkarponn after meeting the residents of St Anthony Praias Vaddo in Anjuna was returning, the trio stopped the Goenkarponn scribe and asked why he had clicked photos of the bar and hotel. The three accused further threatened saying they know him and that he should be prepared for dire consequences.

When Polji started shooting the video of the trio threatening the Goenkarponn journalist, the three accused moved towards the Herald reporter and abused Polji with filthy words and further threatened her.

After the incident, the two journalists rushed to Anjuna Police Station and lodged an FIR against the three accused Menino Fernandes and Alex Cavin Fernandes, both residents of St Anthony Praias Vaddo, Anjuna and Norman Oswin Pinto, a resident of Acoi Vaddo-Kamarkhazan, Mapusa.

All the three accused later moved an application seeking anticipatory bail and were granted ad interim bail.
