VASCO: Barely within four weeks after a leopard was sighted at Hansa, an alert security sentry foiled an attempt by a wild cat to attack the duty staff in the technical/aircraft parking area in Hansa in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to Navy PRO, at about 3.45 am, an armed security sentry at the technical/aircraft parking area in Hansa was alerted by some suspicious movement near the technical area.
The alert sentry acted swiftly and managed to thwart any attempt by the fully grown leopard to attack the duty staff. The wild cat managed to disappear behind Hansa under the cover of darkness.
It may be recalled that similar incident was reported on February 11, when an alert armed sentry managed to drive away a wild cat. Leopards are sighted at Naval Air Station Hansa on various occasions in the past, especially near Spring Beach/Bimvel Beach.
Navy suspects that such presence of leopards in the area could pose a grave danger to the civil populace residing in and around Dabolim. Efforts are being intensified in cooperation with the forest officials to ensure the big wild cats are trapped and re-located to avoid any harm to the local populace.
