PORVORIM: Not just the students, but the teachers in the State are in for a stricter vigil. Attendance of teachers in schools is going to be maintained and monitored through geo-fencing system as part of State Level Achievement Survey (SLAS), which will be conducted across all government, its aided and unaided schools.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told House that the government is concerned by the drop in standards in the quality of school education and has decided to track the performance of every student, right from Class I to XII by conducting SLAS, wherein the students will be accessed for their performance weekly, quarterly and yearly basis.
Even the unaided schools will have submit the report to the Directorate of Education on weekly basis, informing that an agreement has already been signed with an agency from the Gujarat education department, which will collect data. “The attendance of the teachers will be monitored. Compulsory 200 hours of remedial teaching has to be conducted,” he said.
Sawant, who is also Minister for Education, said that remedial classes in subjects like Maths, Science and languages will commence from August, wherein teachers will have to dedicate additional one or one-and-half hour to every weak student, post regular classes. “Teachers will have to put in more efforts from this year,” he said.
