PANJIM: There were a total of 54 COVID deaths in the month of August that also saw 2,809 new cases. In that same period, 2,903 persons recovered.
While the recovery rate hovered around 97.5 per cent to 97.7 per cent, the daily COVID positivity rate has remained steady under 3 per cent or under 2 per cent. The number of active cases reported on a daily basis has also revolved between the 1,000 figure and 850 active cases.
Incidentally, the number of cases in the month of August is nearly 37 per cent less while the number of deaths is 42 per cent less as compared to the month of July.
During the peak of the second wave that was in May 2021, the State had recorded a total of 64,614 COVID cases and 1,481 deaths.
In the next month of June, the number of cases had come down to 11,023, while the number of deaths had come to 327. In July, these numbers reduced with 4,457 new cases and 93 deaths being reported in that month.
