Crime Branch sleuths gather more evidence

rnCrime Branch sleuths descended in Canacona on Tuesday to investigate into the alleged rape of a 25-year-old Australian woman.
rnIt is learnt that SP (Crime) Mangaldas Dessai, DySP Chandrakant Salgaonkar and PI Sunita Sawant visited the place of offence at Palolem to gather more evidence in the alleged rape complaint lodged by the Australian woman against Obi Okoroafor (25), a Nigerian national on Saturday night.
rnThe rape complaint was lodged on Sunday morning, after the duo had allegedly passed Saturday night in partying together, first at a starred hotel, then at a beachside restaurant, before spending the night in a rented beach hut at Palolem.
rnOn Monday, Canacona police obtained 14 days police custody for the accused, before the case was handed over to Crime Branch of Goa Police for further investigation.
rnSources informed that the investigating team visited the beach hut allegedly used by the accused and victim on the fateful Saturday night.
rnLater, the top crime brass were reportedly sighted at Canacona police station engaged in examining some witnesses, including some people who had reportedly seen the accused and victim together at different point of time.
rnMeanwhile, it is learnt that the alleged rape victim recorded her confessional statement under Section 165 of CrPC.
rnAccording to sources, confessional statement of another Australian woman, reportedly a friend of the rape victim, was also recorded in the local court.
