Authorities hold demolition outside GMC, Vendors claimed CM had assured them protection

On the wee hours of Thursday, many of the stalls and shops kiosks that were installed illegally and encroaching on the road outside Goa Medical College Bambolim, were cleared by the authorities.

The authorities arrived with JCB machine during wee hours of Thursday. The vendors, who were operating there, claimed that they were assured by the MLAs that their business will not be touched till 11 pm in the night of Wednesday. But by morning their business was gone.

I had only this small stall outside GMC, on which my entire family survived, how will feed by family? a vendor questioned the authorities after demolition.

As per reports, despite assurance in the past by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to MLAs Francis Silveira (St Andre) and Tony Fernandes (St Cruz) that they will not be touched, they were demolished on Thursday morning.

Soon the opposition, social activist, NGO’s came out in support of the vendors and questioned the Government and the authorities.
