BENAULIM: Hours after Herald TV reported how the junction at the new bypass in Khareband was an open death trap; the authorities have started to act.

Herald TV had revealed how a deep trench without barricades could result in the possible loss of life or cause serious injuries to locals and tourists.

After like-minded citizens and Herald TV exposed the haphazard work, the contractor undertaking the construction work, has now put a metal barricade on one end and barricade tape around the trench. The barricade tape has also been used near the adjoining gutter where the debris has been dumped.

Herald TV had earlier spoken to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, who said, “Yes it’s a grave issue and needs to be addressed. It’s not in my constituency as my constituency jurisdiction ends near the Khareband Bridge. But I’m willing to help and cooperate.”

Kim Miranda, a citizen journalist from Orlim said, “Yes they have used temporary measures. But there is still no electricity in the area. More needs to be done. It’s an absolute need to have traffic personnel and more neon traffic signages.”
