BICHOLIM: The Walvanti River in Sanquelim is reeling under the problem of pollution and the authorities have now taken the matter seriously and have warned that action would be taken against the perpetrators.
Recently there has been tremendous increase in pollution in the Walvanti River. After the locals and some media highlighted the issue the authorities immediately called a meeting to take precautionary measures to save the river. Local MLA, Dr Pramod Sawant has also taken the matter seriously and has asked the authorities to act against the perpetrators.
“We have inspected the Walvanti River and I had asked the WRD and the pollution control board to take note of the same. The report that we have received is alarming and pollution was found in the water of Walvanti”, Sawant said.
He further said that the water of Walvanti is used by the people of Parye, Keri in Sattari taluka and also entire Sanquelim city. “We have taken measures on war footing and recently a joint meeting was also held wherein the Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit, Bicholim PI Sanjay Dalvi, WRD officers and other stake holders were present. A detailed discussion was held about the conservation of the waters of the river and we will see to it that all the measures are taken to keep the waters clean”, Sawant added.
He urged the people not to throw garbage and not to let the drainage water into the river. He appealed everyone to keep the river clean.
