PANJIM: An automatic integrated signal system will be installed at the O-Coqueiro junction, Porvorim, within the next four months that will capture photos of traffic violators.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday reviewed the traffic management system in and around the junction, launched on a trial basis to ease traffic congestion resulting from the on-going construction work of the third bridge over River Mandovi.
Khaunte, who is the local MLA, met the Director General of Police Muktesh Chander along with senior officials from the traffic cell, Public Works Department (PWD) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in connection with the issue.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, Khaunte said the authorities have decided to take various corrective measures to ease traffic congestion at Porvorim junction and to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement.
“Since last month, the new traffic signal system has been implemented at junction on a trial basis wherein crossing the road was closed down. Now, after reviewing the situation, it was decided to open old crossing ways for public,” the Minister said, adding that in the next four months necessary measures would be put in place ensuring that there are no traffic hurdles.
Khaunte said that installation of cameras, putting in place lane discipline, action against violators ensuring smooth flow of traffic, will be the priority.
Earlier speaking, Chander said that one the automatic integrated signal system is installed at the junction, photos of traffic violators would be captured automatically and notices will be served to the concerned persons.
He added that till the time the new system is installed the Police Department will arrange for a hand-held camera at the junction to monitor traffic flow and to check traffic rule violations.
