PANJIM: Goa police appealed to the public to avoid religious congregation as well as religious institutions to adhere to the guidelines imposed by the State government to combat COVID-19.
In a video message, Superintendent of Police (IPS) Bosco George appealed not to violate the call given by government on ‘Janta Curfew’, till March 25.
“On behalf of the Director General of Police (DGP), we make this appeal… you are aware that coronavirus has affected vast chunks of mother earth. Pandemics do not care for territorial border, caste, religion and communities. We can very well avoid it spread by adopting social distancing norms,” he said.
“The Chief Minister (Pramod Sawant) has extended Janta Curfew till March 25. We therefore request all citizens, particularly heads of religious places to adhere to the directions and advise the followers to pray from home. As they say, God is everywhere and He also resides within us. Please help us perish the spread of this deadly virus. We request the devotees to keep themselves and families safe. Let only essential prayer services be performed in temples, churches, mosques and gurudwaras. With all humility we appeal to the citizens once again,” he said.
“We will stay at work for you, you stay at home for us. Help Goa Police,” he added further, while concluding his one-and-a-half-minute-long address to the public.
The police force has been deployed across the State to ensure that Janta Curfew and Section 144 CrPC imposed in view of coronavirus, is obeyed by the people.
