MARGAO: Taking serious note of sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in and around Margao, Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council Agnelo Fernandes on Wednesday appealed to the public to avoid travelling to Margao, unless extremely necessary.  Under the jurisdiction of Margao Urban Health Centre nearly 481 COVID positive cases have been reported as of January 5.

He further informed that as a precautionary guideline the MMC cautions public to be safe and help cut the spread of the virus.

“Only one or two members may come to shop or buy essentials, avoid mass gatherings, parties or other functions”, CO appealed.

He urged the theatres, malls, shopping complexes and places of religious worship to restrict numbers permitted.

“Municipality staff will initiate action and will fine shopkeepers as well as citizens for not wearing masks. Salons, besides barber shops and other establishments that come in contact with clients should follow all social distancing and sanitising norms. If any symptoms are found, please test immediately. Keep children and senior citizens indoors, schools must avoid bringing students on campus and avoid meeting friends, visiting families, and neighbours for a while”, he appealed.

Meanwhile, as on January 5 Margao Urban Health Centre has reported 481 COVID cases, besides an increase in cases in Salcete taluka.

As per the report of Health Services, 286 cases have been reported in Cansaulim Health Centre, 123 in Chinchinim jurisdiction, and 83 in Curtorim Health Centre. Loutolim Health Centre reported 120 cases, and Navelim Health Centre added another 66 cases.

Shockingly, the Margao markets are noticeably crowded, despite the rise in COVID cases, people were seen not wearing masks.
