Awareness on drug abuse held in Mira Mar

PANJIM: In an attempt to curtail rampant drug abuse, particularly among susceptible youngsters; Narcotics Control Bureau-Goa Unit conducted an anti-narcotics awareness camp for students and parents-teachers association of Miramar-based school.

PANJIM: In an attempt to curtail rampant drug abuse, particularly among susceptible youngsters; Narcotics Control Bureau-Goa Unit conducted an anti-narcotics awareness camp for students and parents-teachers association of Miramar-based school. 
The NCB recently launched a string of awareness programmes in the educational institutions and other establishments “to achieve the target of drug demand reduction in addition to the supply reduction which is achieved through drug law enforcement.” 
The session held by NCB Chief Ravi Kumar Rana in Sharada Mandir School had around 150 attendees and also comprised visual presentation followed by interactive session. 
“Youth in our country is especially vulnerable to this menace. Drug abuse along with the abuse of alcohol, coupled with smoking of tobacco products is taking a heavy toll on the health of the youth. It entails not only health costs but also economic and social costs. The spread of drug abuse among the youth has starting hurting the foundation of our society,” an officer said.
The purpose of the programme was to spread the message against drug abuse, identification of drugs types, harmful effects of drugs on body and mind, overcoming drug abuse, role of society, school and family in counselling the children and patients, and importance of inculcating healthy lifestyle among children.
