AYUSH Minister contradicted over Prince Charles’ cure

PANJIM: Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik has courted controversy after his statement that ayurvedic treatment cured Prince Charles, who was infected with COVID-19.

Prince Charles, who came out of self-isolation to virtually inaugurate the UK’s first makeshift National Health Service (NHS) field hospital in London on Friday, has recovered from his COVID-19 symptoms by following the NHS advice.

As per reports in the international media, Clarence House termed reports from India as false which claimed that the Prince of Wales’ recovery after testing positive for Coronavirus last week had a link to ayurvedic and homeopathy cure from a resort in south India.

“This information is incorrect. The Prince of Wales followed the medical advice of the NHS in the UK and nothing more,” a Clarence House spokesperson said, as quoted in the media.

At a recently held press conference, Naik had said that he received a phone call from Dr Isaac Mathai, who runs the Soukya Ayurveda Resort in Bengaluru, who told him that his treatment of Prince Charles through ayurveda and homeopathy has been successful. “This is just one example of how the system can work,” Naik was quoted as saying.

Prince Charles, 71, has been a vocal supporter of ayurveda over the years.
