PANJIM: After committing to promote Goa as an ‘aqua physiotherapy’ destination, Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar has now proposed to promote the State as an ‘international destination for exhibitions and fairs’.
“It will be the endeavour of the Goa government through the Department of Tourism to provide the right infrastructure and platform for MICE tourism in Goa where such mega exhibitions and fairs of national and international repute are held,” he said after inaugurating the 31st Food Hospitality World Expo, and the third in Goa, at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim on Thursday. The initiative, he said, is to boost tourism and the hospitality industry in the State.
He said that Tourism Department was drawing up plans to initiate various projects in the State, and these would be tabled in the House in the forthcoming sessions of the Legislative Assembly.
Speaking about the trade show, Azgaonkar said this will boost local business. “I welcome such trade shows to Goa because it is good for local businesses, be it hotels or restaurants as through such shows one can network and the chance to do business increases greatly,” he said.
The show will feature over 5000 product categories and see the participation of over 300 international brands, alongside more than 7000 industry professionals. Live demos, panel discussions, culinary competitions and participation from leading kingpins in the hospitality industry are some of the highlights.
