MARGAO: Councillor Babita Naik on Tuesday was officially declared elected unopposed for the post of Vice-Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council.
The Presiding Officer had received Babita’s nomination papers for the post backed by BJP councillors. It is pertinent to note that another councillor from Fatorda backed by the BJP too was a front-runner and had even claimed that the
party leaders have assured him of the post.
However Babita Naik was considered for the post as she had the backing of former Fatorda MLA Damodar Naik and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat. “I thank Digambar Kamat and Damodar Naik for supporting me. I have been elected unopposed with the support of other councillors too,” Babita stated on assuming charge.
Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar and Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar were also present at the meeting called to elect the new vice-chairperson of MMC.
