Babu hits jackpot, bags DyCM’s post

PANJIM: Four-time Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar was unlucky in his political career till this week, when he hit a jackpot of getting inducted in the Pramod Sawant-led BJP cabinet as Deputy Chief Minister. Despite being a loyal solider of Congress, the party failed to promote him.
Kavlekar, the former leader of Opposition, who led group of 10 into BJP, is also likely to get crucial Town and Country Planning (TCP) portfolio. 
Elected for the first time in 2002 on Congress ticket from Quepem Constituency, ‘Babu’, he is well known as, continued his winning feat by emerging victorious in 2007, 2012 and in 2017 as Congress candidate. 
Hailing from Other Backward Community (OBC), Babu, who started his political career as Zilla Panchayat member, has dominated the constituency quite well
In 2007, Babu was appointed as the chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) that led him into ACB net for serious charges of corruption. The cases continue to be investigated by ACB.
