ACB gets cracking on Kavlekar’s undervalued properties; Probe indicates Kavlekar deposited lakhs of rupees in cash in his accounts on various occasions

PANJIM: Anti-Corruption Branch of Vigilance Department is probing properties purchased by Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar that according to them, were bought for less than half the amount of the actual market price.
In addition there are over 25 bank accounts of the CLP leader, his wife and in the name of his company.
Sources at ACB said that over 20 immovable properties have been found during the investigation and over 25 bank accounts. Source said the properties are in Goa and also outside while the bank accounts are his personal, his wife’s and on his company’s name.
The team probing this case has reason to believe, that the flats were purchased by Kavlekar at around 50 percent less than the market price. It is also learnt that the property purchased by Kavlekar in Pathanamthitta-Kerala is for a throwaway price. 
Sources said the information about the properties and various transactions have been collected from Election Commission, Goa Lokayukta and from the Income Tax Department. 
It is also found that Kavlekar has deposited lakhs of rupees cash in his accounts on various occasions. Sources said the transaction during the period of demonetisation will be specifically looked in during the course of investigation. 
ACB sources also said there are sale deeds of property in Kerala that are signed on a single day. ACB also found an insurance policy with a premium worth over Rs 50 lakh. 
The agency has not summoned Kavlekar so far as the officers said they need time to study and verify the facts that have come on record. 
Kavlekar was booked by ACB on September 15 in a disproportionate assets case after property worth crores of rupees was found in his possession.  
Kavlekar is also being probed by Crime Branch for his alleged nexus in the illegal matka trade in the State after the ACB raiding team found slips and diaries of accounts of cash transactions on Saturday.
