OLD GOA, JAN 7
Education Minister Babush Monseratte on Thursday stated that the upcoming election to the City Corporation of Panjim is like a ‘dress-rehearsal’ for him, which would give him a clear indication whether he stands a chance to win Panjim Assembly election.
Speaking to Herald at Ribandar on Thursday, Monseratte said: “Definitely, I will not deny that election is very important for me, as CCP election is like a semi final, where until and unless one is qualified for semi final, one cannot enter the finals of eyeing the Panjim Assembly seat.”
It may be recalled that even though the notification for the Panjim Municipality election is yet to be announced, the Taleigao MLA has already announced his panel.
Monseratte is also upbeat after an understanding between him and St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandnes, in which both the MLAs have decided to help each other to fight the elections in Panjim and St Cruz Assembly constituencies.
When asked about his probable list having 55% new faces, Babush said: “Actually, I have balanced my candidates with old, new and fresh faces.”
To a query how he could announce his panel before the notification for election process is announced, Babush said: “Based on the past elections for panchayat, I have the understanding of how the reservation is done and hence I announced my panel accordingly.
When asked how many seats he aims to win in the CCP elections, he said with the support of St Cruz MLA and like-minded people, he is confident of winning at least 27 seats.
He further said that he is yet to decide on his manifesto and there are some points to be added.
When asked St Cruz MLA if she would support Babush in CCP elections, Victoria Fernandes said as her son has given a word, they will stick to it.
