Babush unhappy with quality of new pavers placed near Bal Bhavan

Says quality of earlier pavers was better than what they are placing now; inspects ongoing beautification work of the promenade at Miramar near Goa Science Centre

Panjim: Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate on Monday expressed displeasure over the quality of work undertaken for the replacement of pavers near Bal Bhavan at Campal along the Dayanand Bandodkar Marg in Panjim by the Public Works Department (PWD) appointed contractor.

“The quality of work where they are laying pavers near Bal Bhavan is bad. The quality of earlier pavers was better than what they are placing now. The balusters at the site are uneven and almost half of the balusters are covered under mud. During monsoon the mud accumulated near the indoor stadium will start coming on the footpath,” he said.

Monserrate who is the local MLA said that he has brought to the notice of the Minister for PWD Nilesh Cabral about the poor quality of work that is being executed by the contractor and has sought his intervention.

It is pertinent to note that the work for the replacement of pavers has been undertaken by the government in view of the G20 summit. The pavers previously installed are being removed entirely and new ones are being laid from Miramar to Divja Circle.

On Monday morning, the Revenue Minister inspected the ongoing beautification work of the promenade at Miramar near Goa Science Centre along with his son Rohit Monserrate who is the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor, officials of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited and others.

Atanasio Monserrate said that the beautification work of promenade at Miramar which is being carried out under the Smart City Mission through the PWD appointed contractor is nearing completion and once it is ready it will be inaugurated and handed over to the CCP for maintenance.

He further said that the government will construct a public toilet between Dona Paula Circle to Goa Science Centre stretch and added that a location will be soon identified for the same.
