PANJIM: The Business Advisory Committee(BAC) on Tuesday finalised business/agenda to be transacted during the 18-day monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly starting from July 15.
However, Opposition members have demanded that they be allowed adequate time to raise questions and also that the answers to the Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQ) be given to them at least 48 hours in advance.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said that Opposition members be given more time during discussions of demands for grants and to increase the number of tabling of calling attention notices from two to five for every legislator. He opined that the opposition should get adequate time.
The Opposition Leader further said that he has once again requested the Speaker to withdraw the restrictions on MLAs seeking information only of the last five years through LAQs. The restrictions were becoming difficult for MLAs to compare the data, he said, adding that the Speaker has assured them that he would look into the matter.
According to Alemao, as many as 27 MLAs have tabled LAQs which only implies that the State administration has totally failed and collapsed. “We will raise a series of issues concerning the common people including rising unemployment,” he said.
Reacting to the demand by the Opposition, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said it has always been his endeavour to give enough time to all the parties including the opposition members. Answers to the Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) are delayed when one question encompasses several departments, he said and urged the MLAs to ask specific questions.
The session will conclude on August 7.
