PANJIM: Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) has appealed to all political parties and MLAs to support its convention to be held in the capital on August 29 demanding immediate resumption of mining.
The pro-mining activists have urged political leaders to join hands with them rather than “politicizing” the mining issue for party gains.
“The issue of mining will not be resolved by making petty politics out of it. Rather than making allegations against each other relating to the current mining mess, political leaders across the board need to lead from the front,” Goa Mining People’s Front convenor Adv Suhas Naik said today.
Goa Mining People’s Front, affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Goa Unit, has reiterated that it will “close down” all Central government offices in the State if mining does not start “in a month”.
Goa Mining People’s Front leader Christopher Fonseca said that the priority of government and the apex court should be to retain the livelihood of those dependent on the mining industry and “not illegal mining”.
The mining dependents will resort to an agitation the consequences of which will have to be borne by both Central and State governments, added Naik.
The convention will begin with a rally from KTC bus stand to Azad Maidan.
