Avertano along with MLAs Benjamin D’Silva, Carlos Almeida and Glen Ticlo had headed to Brazil at their own cost after their junket caught them and the ruling government headed by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on the wrong foot. The four are believed to have watched the quarter finals and the two semi finals before returning back to watch the finals at home. “We have not come home before schedule. Since the tickets for the final match were not available, we have returned home as per schedule,” Avertano said.
He replied in the positive when asked whether the group will now submit a report on the football infrastructure in Brazil given that they had gone on the tour at their own cost. “We are in the process of compiling the report on world class infrastructure which was put in place at Brazil for the World Cup. We would unveil the report before the media later this week,” Avertano said.
On the refund of money to the government, he said the four MLAs will refund the amount as per the time frame set by the government.
The World Cup football tour to Brazil had invited sharp criticism from the local and national media with questions being raised on the propriety of the government sponsoring the junket.
