Backing Sawant-led govt was ‘biggest mistake’: MGP

PANJIM: Stating that supporting Dr Pramod Sawant-led BJP government was the “biggest mistake”, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Thursday said that one year of the government has been a complete failure.

Sawant completed one-year in chair on Thursday. He had taken over reins post death of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, last year.

Addressing media persons, MGP MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said that supporting Dr Pramod Sawant government was the biggest mistake.

“In 2017, we supported Manohar Parrikar leadership in the interest of people of Goa. It was not a mistake,” he said adding that there is no question of supporting BJP now or in future.

Dhavalikar was part of Sawant led government till mid 2018, before being dropped from the cabinet.

Dhavalikar said that the one-year of Sawant led government has been a total failure in terms of administration, finance, infrastructure and other developments.

“Government has failed to provide required funds to each department and so also in the constituencies for development. The ongoing works have also been halted due to non payment of bills to the contractors,” he said.

He questioned government’s failure to create jobs in the government sector as promised during the Parliament election.

Failure to start sugar factory, declining tourism sector, no new industry, failure to introduce new schemes are some of the other failures, he said.
