Bad roads, health centre, mega projects debated at Siolim-Marna gram sabha

Villagers lash out govt; say the slogan ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Swamyampoorna Goa’ is only on ‘paper’; say officials play truant; shy away from meeting villagers

ASSAGAO: The Siolim-Marna gram sabha which discussed a wide ranging public issues from public transport, health to village welfare.

The gram sabha which met discussed various important public related issues and initially sought ratification of the minutes of the last gram sabha held last month which covered important aspects such as roads, drains, controversial TCP amendments, sewage, constructions of big housing projects among the important issues that were discussed.

VDC convenor Joaquim Barros also sought to know what was the status of the joint VDC meeting that was called by the villagers along with officials of various departments and the local MLA.

Villagers felt that the departments needed to be proactive of the state had to be real Atmanirbhar as the CM’s slogan of  ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat  Swamyampoorna Goa’ was on ‘paper’  with no department taking it seriously and alleged that officials stayed away from the gram sabha fearing the wrath of the people.

Villagers brought to the notice of the panchayat about the bad roads

and sought to know who was responsible for putting them in order and whether authorities were happy to see people taking to the streets everytime.

On public transport, villagers sought an additional new electric KTC bus to be introduced on the Siolim-Panjim route during peak hours.

It was also resolved that the panchayat should conduct its own site inspection while passing any commercial projects to take note of the infrastructure and accordingly a report should be submitted to all concerned authorities if the infrastructure is found not suitable.

“No commercial projects should be imposed on Siolim when we have limited infrastructure,” said villagers.

“We are getting half the required water supply as many a times we find builders using domestic water and builders submitting false information to the panchayat. This should stop. The VDC would like to be taken into confidence while passing commercial projects,” informed Barros and Agarwadekar.

Villagers said that the Siolim Health Centre was very important as it was a coastal health centre and catering to many villages yet it was ill-equipped and the health centre itself needed prompt diagnosis.
