Baga beach, famous club lane deserted after COVID-19 case

Following reports of a lady getting infected, the locals isolated themselves & stayed indoors

MAPUSA: The Baga beach and the lane of a famous club wore a deserted look on Thursday following reports of a lady residing in the area testing positive for COVID-19. 

According to available information, the lady, who had come down from Mumbai on June 2, was staying at her daughter’s house in Baga.

It is learnt that on June 3 she was taken to a private doctor as she was having difficulty in breathing. She was directly referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where she was tested positive for COVID-19.

Following reports of her getting infected, the locals of Baga isolated themselves and stayed indoors. Not a single person was found on the streets of Baga especially the club lane.

Sources claimed that this lady is mother-in-law of a Calangute panch and had come down to attend a family function. At the wedding reception on June 3 in Baga, she complained of breathlessness following which she was taken to a hospital.

Sources informed that this function was attended by around 200 people including panchas and a Minister.

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said, “On June 2, this lady arrived from Mumbai and next day she fell sick. She was initially taken to a private doctor, who referred her to GMC as she complained of breathlessness. In GMC, she was tested for COVID-19 and after three hours, the reports came positive. She was immediately shifted to the COVID hospital”.

Lobo informed that once the report was found positive, the immediate family of 12 members were also tested positive have been quarantined. Also those people with whom she interacted with, will be also tested and will be asked to isolate themselves. She is relative of the local family.
