Bagwada Bridge may collapse, fear Morlem villagers

SATTARI: The Bagwada Bridge constructed nearly 50 years ago over the Valvanti River in Morlem that connects Bagwada with Pelwada, is in a dilapidated condition and may collapse any moment.

According to locals, bridge has turned weak and at places the iron rods stand is exposed as the plaster has fallen off. The bridge may meet the same fate as that of Paikul Bridge, which collapsed recently following heavy rains.

“The bridge piers have developed cracks. We demand that the Government construct a new bridge,” a villager demanded.

“The PWD officials, during the inspection, had declared the bridge as unsafe and dangerous. The officials have submitted the bridge report to the government. It’s been two years the Government has not taken any action. The villagers staged the protest twice demanding the construction of a new bridge in our village”, said another villager.
