MARGAO: For the first time, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is likely to get a chairperson from the Bahujan Samaj with Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai announcing the name of councillor Pooja Naik for the top post.
The GFP chief said for the first time a woman from the Bahujan Samaj has been pitched in for the civic body’s hot seat.
Claiming that there were allegations that the MLA, MMC chairman and others holding top posts were bamons (Brahmins), Sardesai said, “We need to give representation to the Bahujan Samaj. Our candidate will be Pooja Naik from the Bahujan Samaj. If opposition has a candidate from the Bahujan Samaj, perhaps we can think about it. We are the single-largest group in MMC with 11 councillors. First time in history of MMC, there will be chairperson from the Bahujan Samaj”.
“We don’t have 13 councillors, but 11; he said and questioned why the senior-most people in the council do not think of making a member of the Bahujan Samaj the chairperson”.
“We have the capacity to pull down the council in a couple of days after its formation. We are not the ones to sit at home,” he said, and added that the “BJP and Congress coming together is a marriage of convenience”.
