MARGAO: Bail was granted to assault accused navy officers by Additional Sessions Judge Sherin Paul, on Thursday.
Five naval personnel were arrested by Vasco police for assaulting a youth on October 19. Navy personnel Amit Jaiswal, Jitendra Singh, Shamlal Pakshak, Rajnesh Pachar, led by Commandant Anupam Sharma were arrested for allegedly assaulting Atul Dicholkar, a resident of port town Vasco. The officers have been granted bail after furnishing a bond of Rs 25,000 each and also on a condition to visit the police station for the next 10 days.
The navy men allegedly assaulted Dicholkar suspecting that he abused the daughter of a naval officer.
After the assault there was public anger in the port town and people demanded the immediate arrest of the naval personnel.
