PANJIM: NGO Bailancho Saad has condemned the violence at Melauli last week while slamming the government for taking anti-people decisions.

“Bailancho Saad strongly condemns the brutal violence that was unleashed on the peaceful protestors, mostly women of Melauli, who are demanding that the government stop grabbing their native lands for projects. The tribal people, who have nurtured their lands and forests are the first stakeholders and cannot be dispossessed,” a press release issued by Sabina Martins of Bailancho Saad said.

The NGO has extended support to the rights of the people of Melauli adding,”The government has taken anti-people decisions and used its police force to suppress dissent.”

“Physically stomping on the women is a tyrannical, despicable act. It violates human rights and is an assault on the dignity of women. Bailancho Saad demands that PI Ekoskar be suspended immediately and prompt action be taken by the authorities.”

The NGO has demanded that the government revoke the process of acquiring land at Melauli for IIT, and look for alternatives, by following a participatory process of informed consent and in conformity with laws protecting rights of people and environment and to withdraw FIR against the locals.
