, within high tide line thereby rendering the area unsafe for habitation and movement of public at odd hours.
He said that Water Resources Department officials have taken temporary preventive measures by providing and laying of sand bags in order to protect the embankment from further eroding and to avoid further damage to life and property. “WRD officials have reported that this temporary measure may not withstand the danger if rising of sea water level increases with heavy downpour of rains likely to be expected in the coming days. The report said there is every possibility that this may lead to washing away of the hutments as the hutments are built on sand dunes and have no firm base and proper foundation. The hutments are likely to collapse anytime with cyclonic winds thus causing danger to the life and property,” Furtado added.
