MAPUSA: Minister for Science, Technology, Ports and Waste Management Michael Lobo on Saturday informed that the tender for the Bainguinim plant is in the final stages and improving the existing Saligao waste plant, in addition to existing facilities is in progress.
Speaking after hoisting the national tri-colour on the 60th Goa Liberation Day at the Government Administrative Complex, Mapusa, Lobo said, “Tackling garbage across Goa especially in Bardez and Mapusa will be my first priority and I assure that we will start collecting the waste generated in Mapusa and start processing the same into energy at Saligao plant within next six months”.
Stating that innovation is the true calling card of the future, the Ports Minister said, “I have instructed the Science and Technology Department to focus on innovations and also we are in the process of strengthening the innovation council.”
“The Department of Ports is in the process of developing all the jetties for the passenger use. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant the government is on the pathway to make Goa a model State in terms of all round development and despite odds even during pandemic, the government has not stopped the path of development,” he said.
Stating that the global standards of waste management will enable Goa to retain its pristine beauty, Lobo said, “The government is continuously trying to be industrial friendly by bringing up new innovations schemes for different industries. My department is trying to make Goa garbage free by constantly improving our existing waste management facilities and bringing them to global standards which will enable Goa to retain its pristine beauty.”
“In terms of rural development, I have instructed my department to focus on the schemes like National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) which have the potential to empower self-sustaining women entrepreneurs in our State,” he added.
Deputy Collector I Akshay Potekar, Deputy Collector II Mamu Hage, Bardez Mamlatdar, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council Kabir Shirgalkar, former councillors, freedom fighters and citizens were present.
