Bakeries asked to register

PANJIM: The State government has asked all the bakery operators and manufacturers of local bread (pao) to ensure its registration in accordance with the procedures laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, and Rules/Regulations 2011.

PANJIM: The State government has asked all the bakery operators and manufacturers of local bread (pao) to ensure its registration in accordance with the procedures laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, and Rules/Regulations 2011. 
The circular, issued on Saturday warns of legal action such as imprisonment and fine to operators who fail to operate the business without the registration or license.  
“All the bakery operators, dealing in food articles by way of manufacture and sale of Local Bread (Pao) without a valid registration certificate or license under the law is in contravention of the provisions and is punishable with imprisonment and fine. Hence, it is requested that without license /registration certificate, bakery operation should stop forthwith their business activity. They should obtain the required permission to continue business,” the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration circular reads as.
Furthermore, all the food business operators should mandatorily display their Certificate. In another directive, bakeries operating under unhygienic condition and without the basic facilities are asked to rectify the defects immediately and comply under required law.
The directions comes after the district magistrate warned bakeries of strict action if found illegally operating. The owners of unregistered bakeries are already issued show cause notices for certification failing which they will be forced to shut its operations.
