Baling of Sonsoddo waste finally begins

MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has expressed high hopes in order to handle the waste dumped at Sonsoddo, as the shed for the baling machines are completed and the process of baling of waste has commenced.

The work of the shed for two baling machines was on hold for the last many months, which has resulted in hampering the baling process.

Speaking to the media persons the chairperson further said that the workers at the site already commenced the baling of dry waste dumped outside the old garbage treatment plant.

“At the moment we are running with four baling machines at Sonsoddo, and we have high hopes that the civic body will be able to get rid of waste dumped all over”, he stated.

Chairperson also admitted that the civic body was forced to dump the waste outside the plant due to no space.

It is pertinent that Sonsoddo is facing a shortage of space to dump the day-to-day waste generated in the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipality, as a result the civic body was forced to dump it at the available space in and around the old treatment plant.

Three days before, the chairperson along with a concerned engineer had visited the site with regard to the shed built for the two baling machines. However, on the other hand one of the baling machines at South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) market is lying ideal for the last several months, due to failure from the part of the concerned contractor to build the shed.
