MAPUSA: The ball has been set rolling for two major projects proposed for Mapusa town – a municipal market and state-of-the-art bus stand.
While residents of Mapusa on Tuesday got a chance to preview and offered oral suggestions to draft of the proposed Mapusa municipal market, the plan for the new state-of-the-art Mapusa bus stand was presented to officials last week.
The screening committee formed by Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) in connection with the draft master plan of the municipal market heard the verbal submissions of the people.
Speaking to Herald, MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari said the council had kept the master plan of the new Mapusa municipal market for inspection by the general public and had invited suggestions.
“MMC received suggestions from 20 people, of which 12 people submitted oral submissions to the screening committee on Tuesday. The committee will then submit its report, which will be placed before special meeting of the council scheduled next week,” informed Falari. “The suggestions made by the committee will be discussed in the meeting and the master plan of the market will be approved with modifications deemed fit.” The minutes of this council meeting will then be forwarded to the consultant who has prepared the master plan of Mapusa market to make necessary modifications in the draft plan. Thereafter, the revised draft master plan of the market will be sent to Goa State Urban Development Agency for execution,” added Falari.
Meanwhile, Rahul Deshpande and Associates last week made a presentation of the new state-of-the-art Mapusa bus stand in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Falari, councillors, Assistant Director of Transport Meghshyam Pilarnkar, Traffic Inspector Roy Pereira and KTC officials and others. Deshpande had stated that the state-of-the-art bus stand, which has been designed on the lines of international bus stands, will have multi-use facility, one of its kinds in India and Goa.
“In the area admeasuring 20,680 sq mtrs acquired for the new bus stand, provision for 58 bus bays and 36 bays for idle buses will be made. The new bus stand will have a structure of ground-plus-three storeys,” said Deshpande.
On the first floor, provision for RTO and KTC offices has been made and the second and third floors will be utilized for offices and shops.
“The existing KTC bus stand will be converted into multi-level parking area. There will be ground-plus-five floors and on each floor provision will be made to park 100 cars. In all, 600 cars can be parked in the area. Besides, there will shops and offices. The total parking capacity of both the complexes will be two-wheelers (1,050) and cars (850),” informed Deshpande.
Deshpande said the new bus stand has been designed based on inputs given by KTC. “Sitting arrangements for intra-city and intra-state commuters will be on the ground floor, while inter-state passengers will be seated on the first floor. All the provisions like toilets, canteen, shops, etc, for busy travellers and daily commuters
will be made. The entire bus stand will be disabled friendly,” he said.
