Balli locals stop truck dumping waste in village at 3 am

CUNCOLIM: Following complaints from the neighbourhood about the dumping of garbage in the village, agitated Balli locals remained awae late at night in a bid to catch those involved in the act. At 3.30 am the locals finally saw two persons dumping the waste and confronted the duo. They called on Quepem police to investigate the incident. 
Balli Adnem Sarpanch Rajesh Fal Dessai, while addressing the media, informed that the two persons were garbage contractors from Vasco and that they usually dump waste from hotels at an abandoned stone quarry at Kupwada. However, recently, due to heavy rains, they found it difficult to dump the garbage in the pits and thus were dumping the same in an open place in Kupwada locality. In the wee hours of Tuesday, locals along with the Sarpanch, saw three trucks dumping waste and managed to stop the fourth truck. The driver named Chandrasheshkar and his companion were later handed over to Quepem police. Quepem police have arrested the duo and detained the truck used. Earlier the Sarpanch and locals made the accused remove the garbage dumped by them. They further said this is a warning to those who try and dump garbage in their village.
