PANJIM: Amidst indefinite strike call given by the Balrath Employees from Monday onwards to meet their host of demands, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has informed about enhancement of the salaries of drivers and attendants by almost ten percent, with effect from June. The DoE has also said that the remuneration will be increased by 5 per cent annually.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Director Education Shailesh Zingade said that the government has revised the pattern of assistance for Balrath employees, with effect from June, this year and the notification in this regard would be issued by coming week.
He said that as per the revised assistance, drivers would be paid Rs 12,000 per month as against Rs 11,000 per month and conductors will get Rs 6,000 per month from the current Rs 5,500 per month. “The remuneration will be increased by 5 per cent every year. Also, institutions are asked to ensure that payments are released by 1st or 5th of every month,” he said adding ‘from this year onwards, we will be paying them for 11 months.”
Until last academic year, the balrath employees were paid for only ten months.
Zingade said that the schools would be paid one time installment of Rs 4.17 lakh as against the current assistance of Rs 3.66 lakh and that the grants will also keep changing by 5 per cent rise every year. “The institutions will have to pay to the employees from the grants received,” he said.
The director said that the grants for this academic year are yet to be released as the department is waiting for the notification to get published in the official gazette.
The Balrath employees under All Goa United Balrath Employees Union have given call for indefinite strike from Monday to meet their long pending demands including pay rise, regularization into services and benefits under ESI, PF and health insurance apart from other demands.
