Balrath staff to strike from Oct 18

PANJIM: The United Balrath Employees Union (UBEN) has decided to go on strike from October 18 for eight days, as the government has failed regularise their services and address various issues related to salaries and benefits.

Addressing the media, social activist Swati Kerkar said the union had in June requested a joint meeting between the authorities of the Directorate of Education and Goa government to amicably resolve various issues relating to monthly salaries, timely payment of salary, etc.
“Ten days time was given to the Directorate of Education and government for the purpose of convening a joint meeting between the concerned authorities of Directorate as well as union representatives but in vain as the reply given to our letter was evasive and therefore non-convincing,” Kerkar said.
She said that the various representations, letters, including personal requests by employees, even in the past, had fallen on deaf ears.
The union had issued a strike notice to the Government dated September 30 and had given an ultimatum of 14 days, but the government has failed to respond, therefore the UBEN Committee has decided to go ahead with the resolution adopted by the General Body Meeting of the Union of proceeding on strike.
