PANJIM: The kiosk operators from Bambolim have expressed their satisfaction at the construction of new kiosks and stalls outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, to relocate them.
The kiosk operators and stall vendors had been demanding their rehabilitation after their kiosks were demolished for encroaching on the government land in July last year. Following two months of protests demanding their immediate relocation, the government prepared a plan through the PWD to relocate them outside the GMC complex.
When contacted, the kiosk operators and stall vendors mostly residing in Bambolim and nearby villages on Friday expressed their satisfaction at the ongoing work and hoped that it would be completed within next 10 days and ready for allotment.
“We are satisfied at the ongoing work of constructing new kiosks. We want the authorities to reserves spaces also fruit vendors. After completion we will meet the Panjim Deputy Collector and request him to allot these kiosks to them so that we can earn our livelihood,” they said.
They further added, “We assure all that we will sell quality commodities at reasonable rates since people are mostly visiting the GMC to meet their relatives undergoing treatment.”
The government has already made it clear that only Goan origin vendors identified by the respective village panchayat will be rehabilitated and that it will not permit sub-letting of the kiosks and stalls to non-Goans.
