Villagers from Bambolim and Nauxi on Friday extended support to Chimbel residents who are on a 14-day hunger strike opposing the proposed Unity Mall and Prashasan Stumbh projects. The protesters said the projects threaten local livelihoods and coastal ecology. Advocate Suresh Palker stated that villagers from Bambolim and Nauxi share close social ties and warned that residents across the coastal belt, including Caranzalem, Odxel, Siridao, Dona Paula, Taleigao, Carambolim and Neura Dongri, would unite in support of the Chimbel agitation. He challenged the BJP-led government and local MLA Rudolf Fernandes, cautioning against ignoring tribal and village rights. Protesters announced a series of agitations, including a protest at the MLA’s office in St Cruz on January 10, a demonstration at the panchayat office on January 13 demanding revocation of construction permissions, and a morcha to the Secretariat on January 15 seeking scrapping of both projects.
