The six-month ban on the import of fish has come as a major hurdle to the shack operators, who claim to have been already suffering business loss. The All Goa Traditional Shack Owners Association has demanded that government should look for an alternative to check fish import instead of a half yearly blanket ban.
“The government should extend the deadline to fish traders to obtain all required permissions. There has to be a single window so that one need not run from pillar to post for obtaining permissions. We do not want the six-month ban as it will have a huge impact on our trade. Tourists visit Goa for fish apart from scenic beauty but with this ban, there is a fear that tourists might not turn up,” association President Cruz Cardozo told Herald.
The association has extended support to the fish traders who are opposing the six months ban.
Elated to have been granted early licence to start the business right in time when the tourist season commenced, cancellation of a few charter planes came as a blow to the shack operators.
