MARGAO: Fatorda Police Station Inspector Navlesh Dessai on Sunday informed that the police are still conducting preliminary investigations into the complaint lodged by Seby D’Souza on Saturday against police personnel for assaulting his wife and his son on November 8, after the football match at the Fatorda stadium.
Declaring that he and his son are fans of FC Goa football team, Seby said they have attended most of the clubs matches not only in Goa but also in other parts of the country and in fact were to attend the match on November 11 in Kerala that had to be cancelled because of the assault by police.
He said on November 8, after the match was over, his family started taking some photographs as the prize distribution ceremony was going on when a security officer who they later came to know was PSI Raunak Kadam asked them to leave and his wife Tina told him that they would leave as soon as they take the photographs.
However, Raunak returned with three other persons and began pushing them violently and when they resisted this Raunak punched his wife on her eye which got bruised. As their son questioned why his mother was assaulted, Raunak slapped him twice.
Even as his son Lester tried to free himself from the clutches of Raunak, another PSI Dattaprasad Toraskar came and suggested to take the boy away from the stands “to give him a sound beating”.
Around 15 police personnel along with Raunak and Dattaprasad took Lester to the ground giving him fist blows on his face, shoulders, back, stomach and other parts of the body all along the way while another group of police personnel restrained the parents and not allowed them to follow their son.
Seby in his complaint even mentioned that Dattaprashad squeezed Lester’s neck in an attempt to choke him following which Lester fainted and fell to the ground while the police took him and his wife to the police control room without allowing them to see their son who was lying on the ground.
At around 10.30 pm when they were taken to the Fatorda Police Station, he was informed that their son was admitted to Hospicio but the police did not allow them to visit him and instead placed them under arrest.
He said they were released on bail at around 2.30 am on November 9, after a friend obtained the bail and only after that they could visit their son in the hospital.
Seby said that none of the police personnel were in uniform nor carrying any identification to show that they were police personnel. Further, he said, they never identified themselves to be police personnel and came to know about this only when they were taken to the police control room.
