The organization has also demanded further modification of the Kamdhenu scheme to encourage local breeding rather than depending on Jersey cows.
Addressing the media, president Kamlakant Tari said the organization has resolved to demand that the government bring in legislation banning cow slaughter in the State. “Cows are worshiped by the Hindu community and hence the slaughter of the animal needs to be banned completely,” he said.
The Bharat Swabhiman farmers’ organization, along with Gomantak Gosevak Mahasangh, has organized a three-day all Goa farmers convention in Pernem from November 29. The convention is likely to pass a resolution demanding a ban on cow slaughter.
The convention, which is an initiative to create an identity for farmers, will discuss about 64 rice varieties cultivated in the country, which can be produced and promoted in Goa. The convention is expected to be attended by over 7000 local farmers.
