VASCO: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Vasco unit has appealed to the Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai to prohibit heavy vehicles from Chicalim Circle to MPT from November 12 to 14 till 9 pm due to the festive season.

“Diwali is the festival of lights and prosperity. On the eve of such a pious festival we do not want any mishaps to occur that would cause harm to the people of Vasco,” said Sunil Loran of AAP in a press release issued here.

In a memorandum to the Deputy Collector, the party said each year there is a heavy rush for shopping in Vasco where consumers shop in the market till late evening.

AAP further said there is a risk of accidents which may prove be fatal due to the cargo laden vehicles proceeding to the port.

“Vascokars visit the market for festival shopping. Most come with their children. We don’t want our Vascokars to get hurt just because the heavy vehicles are allowed. We want to ensure their safety,” said Lourenco Leo da Silva.

“In the past there have been several accidents wherein people have lost their lives or have been injured. We don’t want any more such incidents to occur,” said Parshuram Sonurlekar.

AAP sought for the extension till 9 pm from November 12 to 14.

The memorandum was signed by Adv Sunil Loran, Lourenco Leo da Silva and Parshuram Sonurlekar.
