Shripad, also known as Paresh A Sinai Sawardekar, who is suspected of being the driver of the speeding Mercedes involved in the fatal accident on August 6 in Banastarim, has been placed under judicial custody and sent to Colvale jail. The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Ponda extended the police custody of Shripad, under investigation for his role in the devastating incident, by an additional day on Monday.
The Mardol Police presented Paresh before the JMFC, where it is alleged that he was driving under the influence of alcohol during the time of the accident. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of three innocent lives and left three others injured. It is claimed that Paresh operated the Mercedes SUV recklessly and negligently, leading to the horrifying collision in Banastarim.
Following the midnight arrest immediately after the accident, the accused was initially granted two days of police custody. Subsequently, the court extended this period by an additional five days, and on Monday, the custody was prolonged by another day. Paresh has been in police custody for approximately eight days as investigations into the accident continue.
Meanwhile, Paresh’s wife, Meghana Sawardekar, had filed an anticipatory bail application in the Sessions Court in Ponda on August 9. She has been granted interim relief, and the next hearing for her case is scheduled for August 16.
The incident has caused widespread shock and concern in the community, highlighting the importance of responsible and sober driving. As the legal proceedings unfold, the affected families and the community at large await justice for the tragic loss of life and the injuries caused by the devastating accident.
