PONDA: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ponda on Monday further extended the police custody by one day of Shripad alias Paresh Sawardekar, arrested in connection with a fatal accident reported at Banastarim on August 6.
Paresh was produced before the JMFC by the Mardol Police. It is alleged that the accused was under influence of alcohol at the time of accident.
It is also alleged that Paresh drove the Mercedes SUV Car in a rash and negligent manner which led to the horrific accident at Banastarim that snuffed out three innocent lives and left three others injured.
It may be recalled that Paresh was arrested at midnight after the accident. Earlier, the accused was remanded in two days police custody. Later the court extended the same by another five days and on Monday by one day. Paresh is in police custody for almost eight days for investigation.
Meanwhile, his wife Meghana Sawardekar, who had filed an anticipatory bail application on August 9 in the Sessions Court, Ponda, got interim relief and next date of hearing is scheduled on August 16.
