Banastarim accident: Bail hearing adjourned to Aug 23

PANJIM: In a recent development, the High Court of Bombay on Thursday adjourned till Monday, August 21, the hearing on the bail plea of Shripad alias Paresh Sawardekar, who is allegedly involved in the horrific accident at Banastarim, which claimed three lives and seriously injured three others. 

The matter was adjourned after the government prosecutor told the Court that the government is in the process of transferring the investigation from theMardol police to the Crime Branch, Ribandar.

Meanwhile, Mercedes SUV owner Meghana Sawardekar too approached the High Court seeking to cancel the summons issued to her by the Mardol police, to appear for investigations. The Additional Sessions Court, Ponda has already rescheduled hearing on the anticipatory bail application of Meghanato August 23 while, extending the interim protection from arrest granted to her.

On Tuesday, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ponda had remanded Paresh Sawardekar in 14-day judicial custody, after remanding him in police custody for eight days since the accident occurred on August 6. Initially he was remanded in two days police custody which was subsequently extended by another five days and again for one day.
